Spice Island

After our awesome time with the medical team from Cape Girardeau, we were able to take a quick hop over Zanzibar - yup, it's a real place and don't be embarrassed if you had to look it up on a map! Zanzibar is an island off the coast of Tanzania with a unique history in spice, ivory, and slave trading. We stayed in the Stone Town area of the island known for it's unique architecture and ornate doors.

Our stay on the island allowed us to do several excursions including a bicycle tour to a local spice plantation, a trip to Prison Island - home to giant tortoises, walking through Jozani Forest with native Red Colobus monkeys, and a chance to see jump in the ocean with some dolphins off the southeast side of the island. Check out more pictures from our trip in our Picasa album.
