After much contemplation and fruitless brainstorming efforts, we decided on the blog title "Hujambo Rafiki" or Kiswahili for "Hello Friend." Now, if you're somebody that grew up in the 90s or basically own a TV you've probably seen the Lion King and recognize Rafiki. You'll be happy to know that you not only know this Swahili word, but also Simba which brilliantly enough translates into "lion". We'll save the rest of the Swahili lessons for after we've mastered our library-acquired "Fast Track to Swahili" this summer...stay tuned!
In all seriousness, we do welcome all of you who are reading this blog (this is our first undertaking in blog writing, so toss out any tips you can!) We feel so many emotions at this time - from excitement, to nervousness, to pain from the dozens of shots we've been receiving, to sheer gratefulness and awe at the way God has allowed this opportunity to become possible. For some time, I have had the inclination to serve abroad. Having always been enamored by the Discovery Channel, learning about other cultures in school, an amazing study abroad experience, and several short term mission trips, I knew I had a calling to serve those in another country for a longer capacity. When asking Tim if he'd be interested in service together, he easily enough answered "Yes" and has been the one keeping me on track ever since! We'll explain more in the next post about the process we've undergone to get to the point where we are today.
Trying to express our extreme gratitude and thankfulness for all the support, encouragement, and prayers we have received from family, friends, church members and coworkers does not come close it giving it justice! Thank you all, and we thank God for the blessing you've been in our lives.
