The Frailty of Life

Life truly is a gift, each and every day.

This week we realized that fact in 2 major ways: intestinal amoebas and the loss of a friend

The Amoeba
After nearly 6 months of eating local street foods, getting bold enough to rinse our toothbrushes under the sink occasionally, and a host of other daring things short-term visitors wouldn't dream of trying while in Africa, we thought we possessed invincible immune systems. Unbenounced to Megan, last week she would eat something that a little amoeba was hitching a ride on to come wreak havoc to her insides.

An intestinal amoeba: this little thing packs a big punch
to the insides of even the healthiest

After 3 days of being out of it, we visited the doctor for the first time in Kenya with the help of our friends Patty and Dan. The doctor suspected it was caused by an amoeba and prescribed a medicine that should cure it in a couple of days. Tim still remains convinced that he doesn't believe in getting sick, therefore will not.

Remembering Jerim
Sadly, just as Megan was in midst of the battle with the one-celled terror, we were informed of the news that Pr. Jerim had passed away from complications after his motorcycle accident a week and half ago.

Pr. Jerim, seated at the drum,  hosting a party for children
in his home town this past Christmas
Jerim was a faithful, jovial, dedicated, and ardent worker for DCM as an outreach worker with our disabilities program, and also as a parish pastor for his home town area of Katito. Even in the hospital, he was known for his cheer and proclamation of God's grace in midst of all his suffering. His death is a huge loss to all who knew him and the countless he served. Please keep his wife, Millicent, who is expecting and his 3 children in your prayers. We are thankful to have had the chance to know Jerim for the short time we did and benefited from his strong witness to Christ in all ways.
