20/20

Two patients read the
tumbling E eye chart
Salem Lutheran Church, Tomball TX, has been making short term mission trips to Kenya since 2007 to carry out vision clinics. As the years have passed, the service opportunity has expanded to other congregations and to more locations. This past month, on of the teams, with several members from Trinity –Klein Lutheran in Texas came to the town of Kilgoris, about 4 hours south of where we stay. With school being on first term break, we were able to meet the team in Kilgoris and assist them with the vision clinic.  After registering and hearing the Gospel story told by NURU Lutheran Hour Ministries and local pastors and evangelists, patients were tested on the eye chart and they processed through triage. Here Tim worked, writing down symptoms and also taking the opportunity for a “second touch,” engaging the patient with a dialogue about their faith. Megan worked in distance glasses assembly and matching patients with correct reading glasses. We thank our new friends from Texas for their hard work and all the local church workers and volunteers for their translations and involvement in evangelism and vision assistance.
