How many of us have known a teacher, coach, or friend that has made that comment. Well if you are 5 minutes early for something in Kenya, often times you may feel lost, because likely no one else will be around. We've experienced this scenario at many different times, in many different situations. So when we were asked to attend the DCM board meeting on Saturday at 10:00am we thought we will only begin walking to the meeting destination at 10:00am. That should certainly allow us to arrive closer to the time meeting would actually begin.
Despite our past experiences and conscious effort to be Kenyan this time, our heart-rates still increased in anxiousness as we walked to the meeting hall 20 minutes late. But silly us, we were the third and fourth persons to arrive out of the 14 people who attended the meeting. The meeting finally did begin at 10:37 am with 5 of the 14 people still sliding into their seats at some point of the 3.5 hour meeting.
To complete the Kenyan experience we took a 30 minute tea break and after the meeting's conclusion, enjoyed a steaming hot lunch of ugali, rice, cooked cabbage and kale, and chicken with a soda to wash it all down.

During the meeting, we introduced ourselves to the board and Megan gave a brief summary of DCM program highlights. Following this beginning, we quietly observed the meeting as the new year's operating budget and potential expansion programs were discussed.
It was encouraging to see the local leadership work together with each other towards a shared future and we pray God's hand will continue to guide and bless the organization.
